Episode 16: The Origin of Exploring Memories
The Studio Video on this page explains how I came to design my “Exploring Memories” Collection.
Next, a Tabard, a Vest, and a Necklace. There are 3 garment pieces here. The first, a Tabard, is based on a house structure. Or at least that’s what I had in mind. The second is the Cropped Vest (also worn as a belt), and the third is a Necklace.
To begin, I tea-dyed scraps of muslin. Then lined each shape with another piece of muslin. In the sewing world we sometimes call these ‘faced shapes.’ Then took those faced shapes to the mannequin and started pinning them into a wearable garment. Once those where in satisfying places, I began stitching with red embroidery thread to connect the shapes, using a cross-stitch.
Some of the pieces of muslin I typed words from the Sassafras story, using a vintage typewriter.
There is a cropped tabard, which slips on over the head, and snaps at the side. And a necklace piece that can layer over the tabard, then the vest, or each worn separately.
