Episode 5: Shibori Denim Shrug & Hat
Using a simple bolero or shrug pattern, switches up the look instantly. Both of these denim dresses are sleeveless and a little coverage goes a long way.
For the pieced bolero, I used a now out of print Butterick pattern 4926. And the fabric is all shibori dyed fabrics from the amazing textile artist, Rachel, you can find her offerings on Etsy under cape cod shibori, as is her IG @capecodshibori. She has linens and cottons too. But these are all recycled denim. I cut 2” squares to make the fabric for the front, and 3” squares for the back. The closure is from the waist band of a recycled pair of jeans. Sleeves are cut from recycled shibori too.
The pink sequined fabric is from Etsy fabricforus. It was actually quite easy to sew. The sequins are tiny and pliable. The fabric itself drapes beautifully. Yes, I had snippets of sequins everywhere, but cleaned up as I cut each section.
The pill box hat is a vintage Vogue pattern 9665. Again, I pieced left over recycled denim and added the labels from denim jeans for embellishment.
