Painted Denim Apron & Purse
A Painted Denim Apron was a collaboration with @abbychristinecreations. Her artful paintings bring the memories to life, dancing across the apron. Some of the images are of dolls my mom, and Abby’s grandmother, gave me.
I’ve added a purse (Accordion Bag). A while back I took an online class called “Accordion Bag”, with @laurakemshall www.designmatterstv.com. The class offers amazing downloaded videos for you to watch at your leisure.
For my bag I pieced many, many, (did I say many?), hexagons using scraps of antique fabrics. Then cut the front and back of the bag from those once I’d stitched them into a larger fabric. There are several pairs of horse-shoe shaped pieces that make the accordions, and pull it all together.
On each pair of the accordions, I machined quilted in a free-form manner, various words. All with meanings that circle back to my collection “Exploring Memories.” Then tucked and glued the finished bag into the hardware. This is also explained and demonstrated in the class video. It was my first attempt ever working with purse hardware. The instructions were brilliant.
